20 Ways Moms Can Give Themselves Instant Self Care

Being a mom or a full time parent, is a demanding job. You are placed with stipulations, questions and exceptions all day long, and sometimes all night long. Most moms work sick, exhausted and taxed out. That's just the territory that comes with raising good humans. And as a mom, you are more than happy to give all of yourself. To put yourself through the ringer and then maybe again just to see your children happy. But thats the problem with moms, we love to give and give to everyone else. Naturally, do you think we give or think of ourselves? Please, don't make me bust a button on this blouse. Why this is not even a notion with most women, well science says it's all inconclusive. Doesn't take long but we all find out the hard way, that this does everyone in our life a great disservice. No one benefits from a burned out, expended mama. There's a great analogy that I love to remind myself of, 'Do I have my oxygen mask on?'. Because if you aren't breathing mama, you aren't helping anyone including yourself. These are some of my favorite quick go-to self care strategies that I can indulge in instantly. I hope they bring peace and comfort to any stressful situations you encounter throughout the day. 20 Ways Moms Can Give Themselves Instant Self Care:

  1. Call up a friend, your mama or whoever makes you FEEL good when you chat with them. It's nice to know we aren't alone in this wild world.

  2. Write in a journal, take note what works best for you when you're stressed. Writing out your thoughts and feelings has proven to be a great stress reducer.

  3. Take a nap, if you are able to. A 10-20 minute nap is perfect to recharge.

  4. De Clutter a room or area. Just go all in, elbows deep to purge and organize.

  5. Practice yoga. Aim for 10 minutes and if you have time for a longer session, go for it!

  6. Eat a 'real food' snack or meal. No processed food. Avocado toast or a yogurt parfait are a favorite of mine.

  7. Get outside- go for a walk, eat your breakfast or lunch out in the sunshine or plop yourself down on a blanket to look up into the clouds.

  8. Unplug from technology- do something else with your time besides surfing the web or being on social media. Give yourself at least 20-30 minutes to 'unplug'

  9. Give yourself a mini facial. Throw a sheet mask on for 10 minutes, wash your face with an invigorating face wash and you'll be refreshed in no time!

  10. Take quick a hot shower or bath with an uplifting body wash.

  11. Listen to music- my favorite! Instant mood changer to pump up those feels!

  12. Try something new. Try a new restaurant, a new recipe or a new nail polish.

  13. Do something you've been putting off for a while.

  14. Workout- get in an intense sweat session. Aim for 45 minutes.

  15. Plan out a fun weekend with friends or your partner.

  16. Schedule some downtime on your the calendar.

  17. Watch your favorite movie or tv show. You know that movie or show you know every line to, that gives you all those warm fuzzy feelings.

  18. Play with your kiddos. Sounds crazy, but this can be incredibly refreshing and gratifying. Be completely present and engaged with them, do something that brings you both laughter and joy!

  19. Don't say yes to things you don't want to do. If it brings you anxiety or stress, don't force yourself to go through with it. Just say no and move on.

  20. Organize your life. Try out bullet journaling, write out your to do list or monthly goals.
